Hello, and welcome to Vividly Harlequin Great Danes,
We are located in Spokane, Washington and consist of myself, Amber, My husband, Keenan, our two children, Ivy, 11 and Isaak, 8, our 4 kitty cats, 3 guinea pigs and our dogs. I have long had a love for dogs and especially Danes and studied the breed independently for years prior to acquiring our first show/breed prospect in April 2013. Later that year my husband found his first show puppy, a GSD we named Einstein, together we participate in conformation and other performance events. Although at this point in our lives, we are not traveling out side of WA/ID to show, thus only show a few times a year. As we become more familiar and improve our showmanship skills we will begin to travel to more shows around the Inland North West.
I am currently a second year veterinary student at the Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. I received my Bachelor's degree in 2017 from Eastern Washington University. In 2018 I went back to EWU to complete a graduate program in biology and received my Master's in Science Summer of 2020. The research lab I am worked with conducts cell and molecular research through in-vitro culture and manipulation of osteoclasts, the cells responsible for bone resorption and age-related resorption diseases such as osteoporosis. My ultimate goal as a veterinarian is to pursue small animal theriogenology, the field that relates to reproduction and genetics. I am especially interested in assisted reproductive technologies in dogs. I have had the privilege of working as a veterinary assistant since 2007 with emphasis in emergency and critical care which I also enjoy.
As a breeder, I strive to breed genetically, physically and mentally sound Harlequin, Mantle and Merle Great Danes that adhere to the AKC breed standard for conformation, health, breed type and temperament. We utilize OFA health testing in all of our breeding dogs. We select for conformation first over color and we will use the most complementary dogs for our girls and keep or co-own the best overall puppy or puppies from each breeding. Not every dog we own is used for breeding, breeding's are carefully planned after completion of health testing and some level of performance work. Breeding's adhere to the GDCA code of ethics with effort to promote and conserve the recessive "Irish" pattern in the Harl/Mantle/Merle color family and minimize the occurrence of undesirable recessives in this color family. We DO NOT breed out side of the Harl/Mantle/Merle color family. To read more about the various colors seen in the Great Dane breed, visit the GDCA website. We aim to produce genetically diverse puppies but will occasionally incorporate the use line breeding, or line bred stud dogs in our program in hopes of producing healthy quality puppies that meet the standard and exemplify breed type for show/performance and companion homes.
We breed selectively for our selves and those who come to us looking for quality working Danes who are patient enough to wait for a puppy. Although we do not breed very frequently, questions about our dogs and inquiries about future breeding's are welcomed, see our Puppy Page for updates on planned litter's.
